Vietnam Travel Restrictions and Updates


From March 15, 2022, Vietnam has fully reopened its borders to international tourists who meet visa and health requirements. No quarantine is required.

For your reference, we have collected the latest guidelines of travel restrictions and requirements for entering Vietnam, including PCR test, visa, travel insurance, etc.

Note: All travelers to Vietnam would apply the same entry requirements, regardless you are vaccinated or not.

Requirements for International Travelers to Enter Vietnam

  1. From May 15, 2022, the pre-entry RT-PCR test requirement and health declaration had been temporarily suspended.
  2. Have medical or travel insurance covering COVID-19 treatment.Cover a minimum liability of US$10,000.
  3. Self-monitor your health for 10 days after entry. Please notify local health authorities if you have pandemic symptoms.

Vietnam Visa Policy for Foreign Travelers

Currently, the Visa Policy in Vietnam for foreign travelers is the same as before the COVID-19 pandemic.

Vietnam Visa Exemptions

Vietnam now applies visa exemption for passport holders of the following countries with a length of stay from 14 days to 30 days.

Vietnam visa-free countries:


  • Brunei, Myanmar – 14 days.
  • Japan, South Korea (ROK) – 15 days.
  • The Philippines – 21 days.
  • Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Kyrgyzstan- 30 days.


Belarus, Denmark, Italy, Finland, France, Germany, Norway, Russia, Spain, Sweden, and The United Kingdom – all 15 days.


Chile, Panama – 90 days (for the tourist visa only)

Extend your visa: people who want to stay more days can apply to extend their Vietnam visa upon arrival.

Apply Vietnam tourist visa online

People who are not included in the above visa-free countries can apply for your Vietnam tourist E-visa online. Currently, there are 80 countries that can use the E-visa. The tourist E-visa is valid for 30 days with a single entry and will cost USD 25, usually needing no more than 3 working days to process it. A code will send to your email so you can print your visa.

The required materials for a Vietnam E-visa application:

One 4×6 photograph in .jpg format (white background, straight looking without glasses).

One photo of your passport data page, in .jpg format.

A passport is valid for at least six months.

Your temporary address in Vietnam and points of entry and exit.

Debit or credit card for payment.

Process after Arriving at the Airport in Vietnam

No quarantine is required.

  1. Take your body temperature at the temperature checkpoint
  2. Proceed to immigration procedures
  3. Install ‘IGOVN’ and ‘PC-COVID’ applications on your mobile phone(download on the App store or Google Play)
  4. Follow the 5K message of Vietnam’s Ministry of Health

– Khau trang (face mask)

– Khu khuan (disinfection)

– Khoang Cach (distancing)

– Khong tu tap (no gatherings)

– Khai bao y te (health declarations)

Attractions in Vietnam Opened for Tourists

Most tourist attractions and tourism related business like restaurants, domestic air travel, public transport, hotels, etc. Have resumed operations now, visitors just need to take some minor safety measures.

Do I Need a Vaccine?

No, Vaccine is not a must to travel to Vietnam. The entry requirements are the same for international travelers both COVID-19 vaccinated or not.

Screening Centers and Health Hotlines in Vietnam

International travelers to Vietnam are required to self-monitor your health for 10 days after entry.

If you have any COVID-19 symptoms, please notify the nearest local health authority or call Vietnam’s health hotline at 1900 3228 immediately.

Requirements and Restrictions When Returning Home

The exact restrictions for returning varies in different countries, please confirm the announcements of your local government.
