Singapore Visa Process and Requirements

SKIP AHEAD

Citizens of most countries and territories can enter Singapore without a visa for a period of 30 or 90 days depending on their nationality. However, nationals from some specific countries are obliged to obtain a visa beforehand to gain entry to Singapore.

Singapore also extends visa-free transit opportunities to citizens of select nations who are passing through Singapore en route to a different country. These travelers are eligible for a visa-free stay of up to 96 hours in Singapore, provided they satisfy specific criteria.

Read on to find more details about Singapore visa requirements and application process for different categories of travelers.

Major Visa-free Countries to Singapore

Presently, there exist 36 countries where a visa is mandatory for entry into Singapore. However, if you hail from a nation other than these 36, you won’t need to procure a visa to visit Singapore.

It’s worth noting that citizens from visa-exempt countries can enjoy a visa-free stay in Singapore for up to 30 days, except for individuals hailing from the European Union, New Zealand, Norway, South Korea, Switzerland, and the United States, who are entitled to a 90-day stay.

Entry Requirements for Travelers from Visa-free Countries

The entry requirements for travelers from visa-free countries to Singapore are:

  • A passport with a validity of no less than six months.
  • Adequate funds to cover your intended stay (it is advisable to have at least US$80 per day).
  • Submission of a completed SG Arrival Card (SGAC) declaration up to three days before your arrival.
  • A verified onward or return ticket, as applicable.
  • Proof of eligibility to enter your subsequent destination, such as a visa if required.

How to Apply for a Singapore Arrival Card

To obtain the Singapore Arrival Card in advance of your Singapore visit, you have two convenient options:

SGAC e-Service: You can complete and submit the SGAC through the SGAC e-Service website. This involves providing your personal information, travel details, health declaration, and contact particulars. Following a successful submission, you will receive an acknowledgment email.

MyICA Mobile App: You can download the official MyICA Mobile app for free from the App Store (iOS) or Google Play (Android) and utilize it to submit your SGAC. The app offers a profile-saving feature, which can automatically populate relevant information for your future visits to Singapore.

Note: The SGAC submission is entirely free of charge and should be carried out within a three-day window, including the day of your arrival, prior to reaching Singapore. For instance, if your arrival date in Singapore is June 30, 2023, you can submit your declaration starting from June 28, 2023, onwards.

How to Apply for a Singapore Visa?

To apply for a Singapore visa, you need to follow these steps:

  1. Complete and sign the visa application form. You can obtain this form from the official website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of Singapore or from any Singapore overseas mission.
  2. Gather the required supporting documents, making sure to arrange them in the correct order as specified on the official website. These documents may include:
  • A passport with a minimum validity of six months.
  • A recent passport-sized color photograph.
  • A copy of your confirmed onward or return ticket.
  • A copy of your hotel reservation or an invitation letter from your local contact in Singapore.
  • A copy of your bank statement or proof of sufficient funds.
  • A copy of your yellow fever vaccination certificate if applicable.
  • Any other documents requested by the ICA or the Singapore overseas mission.
  1. Submit your visa application through one of the following methods, which may vary depending on your nationality and location:
  • Online: If you have a local sponsor who is a Singapore citizen or permanent resident aged 21 or above with a SingPass account, they can submit your visa application via the SAVE system on the ICA’s website. If approved, your local sponsor can use the SAVE system to print a copy of your e-Visa.
  • In person: Visit the nearest Singapore overseas mission or an authorized visa agent to submit your application. Please note that there is a non-refundable visa fee of S$30 per application. You may also be required to pay an additional service fee to the visa agent if applicable.
  • By mail: Send your visa application and supporting documents to the nearest Singapore overseas mission. Make sure to include a self-addressed envelope with adequate postage for the return of your passport and visa. Additionally, you will need to pay the non-refundable visa fee of S$30 per application by bank draft or cashier’s order, payable to “Singapore Embassy,” “Singapore High Commission,” or “Singapore Consulate” (depending on the mission).
  1. Wait for your visa to be processed. Processing times can vary depending on the volume of applications, the completeness of your documents, and the verification process. On average, online applications take one working day, while manual applications take three working days. However, some cases may require additional processing time.
  2. Receive your visa. Once your visa application is approved, you will receive an email notification with a link to download and print your e-Visa (for online applications) or find a visa sticker affixed to your passport (for in-person or mail applications). Ensure that the information on your visa matches your travel document before proceeding with your travel plans.

The Singapore Visa-Free Transit Facility

The Singapore Visa-Free Transit Facility (VFTF) is a special arrangement permitting specific travelers transiting through Singapore to enter the country for a duration of up to 96 hours without the need for a visa. This facility is extended to nationals from the following regions and countries:

  • Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), encompassing Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, and Uzbekistan
  • Georgia
  • India
  • The People’s Republic of China (PRC)

To qualify for the VFTF, travelers must satisfy specific criteria, including:

  • Possessing a valid onward air ticket scheduled to depart within 96 hours.
  • Holding a valid visa or long-term pass for designated countries (for Indian and PRC nationals).
  • Departing Singapore by air.

Travelers are required to present their case to the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) officers upon entry, who will determine whether entry into Singapore is granted. It’s essential to note that extensions of stay are not permitted for transit travelers under the VFTF.
