Explore the essence of Myanmar on this 7 days trip to Yangon, Mandalay, and Bagan. Your trip will start in the cultural capital of Mandalay with visits to Amarapura and several sacred Buddhist pagodas and monasteries. Then transfer to Bagan to take part in a cooking class, visit Nyaung Oo Market to look into locals' daily life, and see many of the best pagodas in the Bagan Archaeological Zone. Your last stop would be Yangon where you'll hop on the Yangon Circular Train to admire the cityscape of the laid-back city.   1. Welcome to Mandalay! Your local guide and driver will be ready to welcome you upon your arrival. Drive to the hotel for a short break.

    This afternoon, you will be accompanied to Amarapura Ancient Town. Once the royal capital of Myanmar during Konbaung Dynasty, it is now the worship and academic center for Buddhism in Burma. A visit to the Amarapura Palace offers you a look into its former glory.

    Then visit the U Bein Bridge, the oldest wooden bridge in the world and the biggest highlight in the ancient town. Get your camera ready as we will hop on a small boat to catch the stunning sunset scenery over the water.

    Get back to your hotel in Mandalay after enjoying the sunset.

  2. Get us early in the morning, and start today with a visit to Mahamuni Pagoda where a huge golden Buddha statue is enshrined. Each morning at 4:00 am, a Face-Washing Ceremony takes place at the pagoda when the presiding abbot helps the Buddha image wash face, brush teeth, slather on some sandalwood paste, and sprinkle scented water.

    Note: Only males are allowed to enter the main chamber to admire the ritual.

    Then, head to the Shwenandaw Monastery, part of the former royal palace. Once survived the earthquake and bombing during World War II, the monastery now is a place to gain insight into a large number of local wood carvings, offering some great photo opportunities.

    Afterward, move on to the Kuthodaw Pagoda to admire the worlds largest book which is composed of 729 marble slabs.

    An elevator will take us up to the top of Mandalay Hill to enjoy a panoramic view of the city under the sunset glow.

    • You will need to remove your shoes and socks before entering a religious site.
    • After you get back from the top of Mandalay Hill, wet wipes will be offered for you to clean your feet.

  3. Fly to Bagan in the morning. Upon arrival, your local guide and driver will transfer you to the West Pwa-Saw Village to take part in a fun cooking class with the locals. The funds for the cooking class will support the locals for schooling and housing. It will be a delightful experience to learn to prepare and savor the traditional Burmese cuisine which features the extensive use of fish products and fresh vegetables.

    Follow your guide to visit Nyaung Oo Market (or Nyuang U Market) to see local people buy and sell their daily food and how they bargain. Then transfer to the Shwezigon Pagoda, an ancient Burmese-style pagoda that is covered by over 30,000 copper plates.

  4. Bagan is a city that will offer you one of the best sunrise experiences in the world. With over 2,000 pagodas spread out across the horizon in the morning mist, the shadows of the pagodas shift as the sun rises, then the clear sky will be dotted with colorful hot air balloons, super mesmerizing.

    We will start today with a visit to the World Heritage Bagan Archaeological Zone. Your guide will escort you to visit some of the best pagodas in the zone, including Ananda Pagoda, Maha Bodhi Pagoda, Dhammayangyi Temple, etc.

    After lunch, take a break at your hotel to avoid the hottest time of the day. Then visit the Bagan Archaeological Zone again in the late afternoon. Your guide will arrange a romantic Horse Cart Ride while you marvel at the amazing sunset.

  5. This morning, see goodbye to Upper Burma and take an early morning flight to Yangon, the former capital of Myanmar. Your local guide and driver will pick you up at the airport and transfer you to the hotel for check-in.

    In the afternoon, visit Yangon's Colonial District to look into many historic buildings. Then wander around Bogyoke Aung San Market with various handicrafts, gem shops, and wood carvings.

    Before getting back to your hotel, head to the Shwedagon Pagoda, the most sacred Buddhist pagoda in Myanmar, where you can enjoy the stunning sunset and peaceful people watching when locals doing their end-of-the-day prayers. The 99 meters high golden dome is said to be plastered with 60 tons of pure gold.

  6. Today, you will hop on the Yangon Circular Train to admire the cityscape of the laid-back Yangon and gain more insights into local life. The train is rather slow since it will take about 3 hours to complete the 45km loop.

    You will ride the train at 9:00 am this morning from the Main Station. Expect a stop every 5 minutes when locals hop on or hop off. Get off at a local market in an outskirt area, spend some leisure time in the market to wander around or do some shopping before your driver picks you up there and transfers you to the Thadama Myintzu Nunnery, home of over 200 young girls who were saved from sex trade or home abuse.

    Get back to the downtown area and visit Chaukhtatyi Paya to see the giant reclining Buddha image, and then head to Aung San Suu Kyi's House before the end of today’s trip.
