This 2-day exploration of Angkor Wat will take you deep into the history and legends behind the Khmer kingdom and visit the many magnificent sandstone buildings. On the first day, you will be led through the ruins on the Small Circuit, highlighted by Bayon Temple and sunset over Bakheng Mountain. Day two begins with sunrise at Angkor Wat, then explores the temples on the Big Circuit, including Ta Prohm, where the movie Tomb Raider was filmed, and Banteay Srei Temple, and concludes with a cruise on Tonle Sap Lake.

Itinerary

At 8:00 am, your private driver will pick you up from your hotel and take you to the site to purchase your Angkor Pass, which is valid for 2 days. After that, your exploration of Angkor Wat will begin.

Take a guided tour to the South Gate of Angkor Thom, where you’ll see the exquisite bas-reliefs. Bayon Temple, the heart of Angkor Thom, is today’s main attraction. Here you can admire the reliefs of many smiling faces and nearly 40 Gothic stupas. Follow a 200-meter walkway to Baphuon Temple. Standing at the top, visitors can enjoy the surrounding verdant landscape and the classic reflection of Angkor’s historic site on the water.

Then move to the Phimeanakas, the Elephant Terrace, and the Terrace of the Leper King.

After lunch, continue your tour to Angkor Wat, once the capital of the ancient Khmer Kingdom. Known as the National Treasure of Cambodia, it is the largest religious monument in the world and the earliest Khmer-style architecture in Cambodia. If weather permits, shoot the stunning sunset at Bakheng Mountain or Pre Rup Temple.

Enjoy a buffet dinner and a traditional Cambodian performance in Kulen II restaurant(USD12 per person).

Angkor Wat’s gorgeous sunrise attracts countless tourists from all over the world. If your hotel offers breakfast, you can pack a take-out breakfast and have it ready at 4:30 this morning as we head out early to catch the magnificent sunrise view of the Angkor temples.

After photographing the sunrise and having breakfast, we will start our day’s exploration with Ta Prohm, where the movie Tomb Raider was filmed. Over time, the temple was invaded by tropical trees, whose python-like roots penetrated the building, causing the internal stone towers and walls to collapse.

In the afternoon, take a quick tour of some Buddhist temples including Preah Khan, Neak Pean, Ta Som, and East Mebon.

Afterwards, head north to Banteay Srei Temple, which is famous for its gorgeous colors and exquisite reliefs, and is known as “the Gem of Angkorian Art”.

Finish the 2-day tour with a Tonle Sap Lake Cruise. The boat will take you into Kampong Phluk Floating Village, where you will get a glimpse of the unique culture and the region’s fascinating natural ecosystem. Also, you will be treated to a charming sunset view over the largest freshwater lake in Southeast Asia.
